Tonka is a courtesy posting for a good friend of ours in the rescue world. She helped save this boy and he has been looking for a family for a while. TONKA IS DEAF. He is a good boy though and even attends doggy day care! He just needs to find a family that can give him the love he needs.

About Tonka: Tonka is kennel trained & housebroken, but he isn't given a chance to have accidents as he stays in a kennel or the laundry room when unsupervised. He may cry in his kennel but settles down with his Kong toy. He is completely disinterested in cats & gets along well with other dogs but would like canine siblings who won't mind being his velcro. Tonka is exceedingly friendly, has lots of energy & loves to play fetch, chew on his chew bones & go for walks. He walks great on a leash & harness - no pulling or jumping. He also loves car rides & doggie day care! Tonka is being exposed to sign language, knows "sit" really well & always sits for his food. He is an absolute LOVE & one day he will make a wonderful addition to a very special family.

History: (From his foster's view) Tonka came to Caddo Animal Control on Monday, September 19, 2016. Thursday, while pulling cards for rescue, I happened to ask about the adorable white bully in kennel 55 - he would be destroyed in the morning. Heartbroken, I frantically began networking, so the shelter agreed to hold him a few extra days, but he started losing weight from stress & other dogs were attacking him, so I knew we needed to move quickly. Finally my dear friend Rachel was able to pull him after he got a sponsor & a foster, so Tonka got his freedom ride! He went to his awesome foster mommy, Lauren, who figured out that he was deaf & he had also tested positive for heartworms, so we knew we were going to have a big challenge ahead! Fast forward & Tonka has now completed his heartworm treatment & is doing great! However, he lost his rescue backing so it's up to me to find him an amazing home. My hope is that he can find the best, most compatible family.

You CAN schedule a meet n greet with Tonka during the week at the place where he attends daycare. Message us to inquire on that or a private meet.

His adoption fee is $200 & includes microchip, his prevention meds & a vet follow-up. Excellent vet references, a history of responsible pet ownership, a home check & a securely fenced yard are REQUIRED - NO EXCEPTIONS.
