---------------------

History: Archie is one of 4 beagles that were owner surrendered to a local shelter that euthanizes for space. Their owner kept them in a back yard and surrendered them saying they were "destructive outside." Skin and bones, and covered in fleas. One was pregnant. (Archie may have been the dad, who knows!) They were so scared at the kill shelter. All were heartworm positive and at risk of being euthanized.  ALL 4 have been rescued. We personally saved Archie and Darla. It has been so nice to see them flourish with love. Archie has been a lover since day one though. He just adores other animals and is an all around a friendly boy.

About: Archie would love a home with another pet. He is to be indoors and really enjoys sleeping in bed. He is kennel trained but tends to pant in there... he may would be okay out of the kennel but his current foster home is a little worried to try right now which is understandable. He is still young and closer to the pup age. That would all be at the owners decision. He is NOT to be left in a yard while the owner is gone.  I know Archie is a beagle.... but we want him to find a loving home where he is treasured as part of the family. He is a sweetheart and deserves the best after all he has been through.  In public he can be a little reserved or nervous. It's all new for him and he will likely get better with time. To us, it's just who he is. We know he's a playful happy boy.

Vetting: U p to date on all yearly vaccines and rabies, heartworm tested and was positive (see below). On heartguard monthly for heartworm preventative. On Bravecto for flea/tick prevention, bravecto lasts for 3 months at a time. Neutered! Treated for intestinal parasites. Treated for sniffles after leaving shelter environment.  Microchipped!

About Heartworms:::: Heartworm tested and was positive (with no symptoms, please read on down below for information on this) we are doing slow treatment with him. Heartworms are NOT contagious. Your pet can not "catch them" and will not contract them if your pet is on regular heartworm prevention which is a requirement for all of our adopters. Heartworms come from a bite from an infected mosquito, that is why heartworm prevention is so important.

**** If a dog has heartworms do not let it deter you from adoption. We do either fast or slow treatment. On slow treatment, our heartworm positive dogs do a month of doxycycline twice a day and heartworm prevention. The doxy kills any baby heartworms and weakens the adults until they die of age. This is gentler on the pet than full blown treatment and is our current method for Archie due to his foster home.  Archie  has completed his one month of meds (doxy pill twice a day) and needs to continue regular heartworm prevention like every other dog. You may speak with your personal vet about the full on treatment if that is preferred and a possibility for the pet. Send any questions on the matter!  As of right now, we have had positive cases become negative around 2 years later on slow treatment.

About Applying to Adopt:  This pet has a $100 adoption donation fee (microchip fee is included) This fee generally NEVER covers how much we actually spend on the animal. We are a 501c3 non profit so the fee goes back into our volunteer rescue to help us save more lives. We function solely on donations.    Step1:  Email rockersrescue@gmail.com and tell us that you will be filling out an application. This is IMPORTANT as sometimes apps do not go through.  Step 2 : Fill out an app at www.adoptapet.com/rockersrescue/dogadoptionapp/ Please be truthful when filling out your app and include as much information as possible. Don't forget to send the email to let us know to check for your application. Thank you for considering adoption!
