Tiffany:

  • Around 3 years old
  • Female Powder puff crested
  • ~11 lbs
  • will require experienced owner.
  • Tiffany's fur was shaved down in the past due to the condition it was in when rescued, her fur is starting to grow back in. We are working on her powderpuff crested cut as her fur grows.

History: Tiffany was part of a large cruelty case involving 242 dogs just outside of Houston.  The conditions Tiffany lived in most, if not all, of her life included filthy small wire cages filled with too many dogs and neglect that is typical of puppy mills.  She has many behaviors typical of puppy mill dogs that we will educate her adopter(s) about further.

Breed: Tiffany is considered a “powderpuff” Chinese Crested.  She can be considered high maintenance when it comes to grooming. With her white fur, she is prone to tear stains. Cresteds for the most part are typically shy and often described as more “cat-like” due to their independent and aloof nature.  Exercise requirements are low and typically cresteds show short bursts of energy interspersed between lots of sleeping. Breed knowledge is preferred but a willingness to research and learn more about the breed is a requirement for her home.

Personality: Tiffany is a shy girl who is quickly showing us her personality and playful side but will need a home that is patient and understanding of her background.  She will likely always have a shyness about her, especially with strangers, but she has never been aggressive. As of right now, if you reach for her, she usually reacts like a magnet and goes the opposite direction. She does allow being held and pet though once you do get her.

She loves playing with toys and will even play with her foster siblings.  She is venturing closer to her foster mom and has even gone to lay beside her. She may follow people around the house and sniff them but will shy away if a hand reaches out to pet her. Tiffany needs a home that will be understanding of her needing personal space to feel safe until she learns.

Tiffany and the other crested were seized and went to the Houston Humane Society. Tiffany was adopted from them and returned TWICE before coming into our care. We want to find her forever family. She really is sweet and is working on coming out of her shell. It's all about finding the right fit for her.

Home requirements: Being a small more nervous dog, Tiffany requires a home without large dogs that could spook her. She enjoys her smaller friends.  Likewise due to her size and personality, a home with teenagers and older is best.  All cresteds, but especially puppy mill dogs, require a VERY securely fenced yard.  She is NOT leash trained and is progressing with potty training but we cannot guarantee that she will not have accidents.  She does use a potty pad if available but accidents may happen especially in the beginning. Owner needs to be understanding of the breed, grooming requirements, vetting needs, and understanding her shy-ness/fears. She has been learning when it is time to go to her kennel and even went in on her own a few times. Requirement of past vet history, current pet to help her continue learning, and crested experience.

Vetting:  For starters, Tiffany has began getting an Allergy shot. She will need an allergy shot about every 5-6 weeks. Since getting her first allergy shot, her eyes have stopped watering so much and she isn't itchy like she was. Potential adopter must understand this is an added expense in her care and something she will likely need constantly.

Spayed. Up to date on yearly vaccinations and rabies vaccine. Heartworm tested negative. On proheart heartworm prevention which lasts 6 months from date given. On Bravecto flea/tick prevention which lasts 3 months from date given.  Had fecal test that was negative. Whilst under another organization Tiffany had been treated for ear mites, dewormed, received eye medication,  Noted to have severe dental disease, today (1/22) Tiffany had her dental leaning done.

Please only apply if you have a good history with your vet. We require other pets in the home to all be altered and current on vaccines/ regular monthly heartworm prevention, indoor pet only.
