Honcho -

Male around 36lbs. Estimated around 10 months old. Honcho is a short and stubby basset hound mix. We do not know what he is mixed with. We are adding a few videos of this sweet boy. <3

History   :       Honcho was ran over around the 4th of July and brought to our local shelter that euthanizes for space. They posted him online in hopes of getting him help. Our rescue stepped up to get him to the vet to be examined and receive care while he was being networked. It was discovered that Honcho needed a surgeon. He had both back legs broken and a fractured pelvis. Without a rescue taking him in and getting his surgery asap... he would've been euthanized by the shelter. We found a surgeon and were quoted $5000-$6000 for his surgery and care. No other rescue was able to help.  I looked at him knowing, if we didn't help, he'd be killed. So we gave the okay for this doggy we barely knew. We just knew he deserved to live. We spent over $4k in surgery and care to save our boy.

About Honcho:       Honcho had his surgery on each leg. One of his legs had outer hardware ad the other had inner hardware. He stayed with the vets for a few weeks as he recovered. He actually walked much sooner than thought! Honcho had his final surgery to have his outer hardware removed. He finished his strict kennel rest regime. Honcho is seeking a basset loving forever family. He is getting better with potty training. He is kennel trained. He loves to play with other dogs. We are unsure how he is with cats.  Honcho LOVES toys! It's the sweetest thing seeing him hoarding up toys around him on a dog bed. He is very doting with people and loves attention. He's just a big (little) baby that needs someone to teach him and be his best friend!  Oh and he loves to give kisses. Honcho can sometimes be funny about strangers in new places, with think its a fear thing.   He also knows the command sit and does decent on leash with a harness as he can be a strong puller. Plus kennel trained.

Requirements:     It is best that Honcho currently goes into a home without steps everywhere.  No young children.  ***  Home MUST have previous vet history due to Honcho's case. He is a candidate for arthritis earlier in life due to his injuries he sustained. He is an amazingly sweet boy, but he is a special case. Per vet: down the road if his inner hardware in his one leg ever begins to hurt him, it can be removed. Indoor pet. No being left outside. Needs a fenced yard to play in and get energy out.

Honcho is up to date on yearly vaccinations and rabies vaccine. Neutered. He had a negative heartworm test and is on heartworm prevention. Fecal exam. On monthly flea/tick prevention. Microchipped with a lifetime registry.

About Applying to Adopt:     This pup has a $100 adoption donation fee (lifetime microchip fee is included) This fee generally NEVER covers how much we actually spend on the animal. (We've spent around $5000 on Honcho alone)  We are a 501c3 non profit so the fee goes back into our volunteer rescue to help us save more lives. We function solely on donations.
