Dutton -   Be sure you see my FULL bio all the way to instructions on how to apply. Some sites only show a bit of bios.  My full bio can be found at www.rockersrescue.org

This tiny boy is precious to us and has a sad story. Please read bio fully, we look forward to finding his perfect match that will love him as we do.  Neutered male, utd on everything and preventions. I have a $50 adoption donation for approved application/adopter.

Weight: now a healthy looking 11lbs.

Breed: Silkie Terrier/ Mini Schnauzer

Age: 6 yrs according to former owner.

Grooming: Dutton WILL require regular grooming. His fur will grow back out. He had to be sedated and shaved down/evaluated due to his condition at the shelter.

Dental: Dutton now only has 3 teeth but he does still enjoy eating hard food. He sadly had neglected/infected teeth that required many to be pulled when we saved him.

Behavior: READ CAREFULLY: Dutton was once in a home protecting his mommy that had cancer. Dutton is SWEET AS PIE. I mean, he is darling precious and so easy to love but he also has a protective side of the people he loves. Due to this, his future home will need to be adaptable to his needs. No children. He is in a foster home with a 9yr old but she is a rescue raised child. A single owner would be ideal. A couple can work with him too but he is protective of whomever is laying in bed. There will be a learning/transition period for him. We have found him to be less on guard in situations the longer we've had him, but still wanting to keep whoever is laying in bed safe from the other person in the room. This is likely due to him feeling the need to protect his former owner. He only has 3 teeth so it's not like he'd hurt someone bad but he does charge and bark at times.

Behavior Continued: Alright, now for the sweet side. Dutton is a gem! Dutton-button. Dutt-Dutt. He is generally a happy boy! He will run up to you and paw at you in excitement when you get home. He smiles super big when happy. Yes, HE SMILES. Dutton is content laying in a dog bed but also will want in your lap. The king of pawing at your hand to rub his belly. He loves his belly rubs. Dutton is also SO snuggly. He loves sleeping in bed. Under the covers by you, on your pillow, etc. Overall, he's like a chill dog that just lays around but he also has spurts of energy. We haven't seen him play with a toy yet. We adore him. It's such an honor to help him heal from his past.

Potty Trained: Dutton goes outside to potty in a fenced yard. Sometimes he enjoys some sun bathing but I keep an eye on him since he's so small. His ideal home has a fenced yard.

Dog Friendliness: Dutton gets along with other dogs in his foster home. (5 dogs ranging sizes larger to him, up to a rottweiler size.) The other dogs are not hyper though and do leave him alone. If any current dogs like to sleep in bed with you they'd have to be understanding to when Dutton is being protective of you.

Cat Friendliness: Dutton can co-exist with cats but he does tend to chase the two in his foster home frequently. They are crippled (majority blind, scoot to walk) and so they just run and don't care for him. When one of them does stand up to him, he walks away. That being said, if you have a shy cat he would not be a good match. If you have a brave cat, it may could work. A serious talk and trial would be ideal.

History: Intake Date into our rescue 2/17/22. Dutton was originally surrendered to a shelter that euthanizes for space. His owner had cancer and was no longer able to care for him and what we think is his mother doggy. They were both said to be Silky Terriers, but Dutton looks like he may have some miniature schnauzer in him as well. They said Dutton was 6yrs old and the other dog was 15yrs old. Those ages given seem to line up. Both were badly matted and needed medical care including treating infection in the mouth and bad teeth needing pulled. Some people think Dutton looks older in his pics but the vet told us many younger dogs can have teeth problems based on genetics and all. Dutton received meds for infection and got his dental. His smiley face isn't as teethy anymore but he's still just as cute! Someone said Dutton was aggressive when he was surrendered. And he did scare some people in the beginning. When we first met this boy though, he was FULL of smiles and tail wags. He truly is a sweet boy, he was just scared and likely protecting his former mom that had cancer.

Company: Basically, if you have company over a lot, you could expect Dutton to protect you from the intruder, haha. That's with many small dogs though. Either work with him or put him in his kennel or a room. I actually have my company carefully hold him until he stops barking. Put him down, if he barks again we repeat the process until he's content with them.

Not home: Dutton is currently kenneled when we aren't home. Though we do think he is a great candidate for free roaming when you aren't around. He's a good boy.

We can't wait to find this sweet boys match. He has his spicy side, but his sweet side is SOOOO amazing you will fall in love so fast. After an app is discussed and approved we would schedule a meet. Dutton will also likely require a meet at the future adopters home so we can help him settle in should we all feel he's a great match. We can't wait to welcome someone into our Rockers Family, we are smitten over this little boy.

Vetting: Overall vet check. Neutered, fully vaccinated with yearly vaccines, heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm prevention. On monthly flea tick prevention (Trifexis covering all) Fecal done and sent to specialists, all was good. Extensive dental (many teeth pulled) He only has 3 teeth now but he can still eat hard food.  The vet did notate his rear right knee may have had an injury in the past based on an xray and if he ever has major problems with it then a surgery should fix it. He has shown no issues with the leg. Shave down at vet clinic due to matting.
